Barnes graduated from Madison High School in Richmond, Ky., completed undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University, and obtained his Masters Degree in Education from George Peabody College of Nashville, Tennessee, now known as Vanderbilt University. Additional survivors include a niece, Margaret Barnes Pennington of Louisville, Kentucky, and a nephew, David C. Barnes of Lubbock, Texas and Christopher C. (Teresa) Barnes, MD of Houston, Texas, where he is Chief of Staff of the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Houston and Associate Professsor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine two grandsons, Douglas A. Other survivors include a son, Douglas A. He married Catherine Caroline Agna on in Troy she survives, currently residing at the Fort Myers address. He was born Januin Maysville, Kentucky to the late Herbert C. Sunday Decemat the HealthPark Medical Center of Lee Memorial Hospital System in Fort Myers, Florida following an extended hospitalization subsequent to a fracture of the hip.
